Cabbage?

I planned to have escalloped cabbage (or maybe fried) for lunch today. After I cut open the head, I decided against it.

What in the world  is that?

It's now in the trash.

    Took photo of cabbage to store, showed it to customer service and got another cabbage. I haven't cut into it yet.

    On the 28th I cut into the "new" cabbage. Same condition - just not quite as large an area. What is the deal?
