Recycle Material

Lots of mail (?) today. All shiny bright cards printed and mailed at a significant cost. What a waste.
I look at them to see who they are pushing and then they go directly to the recycle file. One thing that would help this country would be to limit the time for the campaigns. Six months would be good but maybe six weeks would be even better. The money wasted on this four year travesty could certainly be used elsewhere. Perhaps to feed some hungry kids or help our schools.

My rant for the day.

Jodhpurs

When I was a kid, I had a pair of green jodhpurs.  My dad had a brown pair and he wore boots with his.  I had no boots to wear with mine but I really liked those pants!  All my life I have called them "jod-fers."  Last week I heard them mentioned on a tv program and thought something didn't sound right. I looked up the word on dictionary.com and listened to the pronunciation. Sure enough! It's "jod-purs." No one ever corrected me. But then, how many times does that word come up in a conversation?

Just shows, you are never too old to learn something new or that you were wrong and never knew it.

Found a photo. I don't remember mine being quite this wrinkled.

Solution?

One gentleman's answer to running out of paper towels.  Genius or red-neck invention?

Eyesight or Senility?

I just bought new glasses so it's not eyesight. Or is it? At the store, buying tomatoes and lettuce for BLTs, I saw a cucumber. I love them made with my friend, Barbara M.'s recipe, Cukes Delicious. Vinegar, oil, sugar, salt and milk for a dressing over sliced cucumbers.

Got home, peeled and sliced.

I bought a zucchini.
Now I guess we'll see at lunch if Lee has lost his taste buds.

My Last Starbucks

Today my card is empty; a balance of $4.50 plus .75 bought my last Grande Mocha decaf.
I always thought it was ridiculous to pay $5.00 for a cup of coffee. If they aren't making enough profit to pay their baristas a living wage without raising their prices .20 to .30 per cup, then perhaps they need to reevaluate their business practices.
As for me, I will be buying Swiss Miss dark Chocolate Delight packets and dumping them into a cup of home brewed coffee. Saves on gas too - and wear and tear on the tires.

Homemade Jacket

We have been amazed at the absence of fireworks the last two days. This afternoon we began to hear some loud explosions. So did Jill. I put this sweat shirt/crocheted extender on her. She settled down.

I hope it will work when the sounds get worse.
