Serious. Opinion.

I have felt I have changed with the social differences that have come about during my life.

Do what you feel is right for you if it does not hurt others.

Live your own truth.

Don't let others dictate what you should do with your life.

Etc.

But now, my one thing that I see as stupid is a woman feeling she was mildly mistreated (I'm not talking physical abuse with actual wounds.) by a male. Possibly five years ago; maybe twenty years ago. If she didn't speak up then and address it directly, then keep your mouth shut and don't try to get your fifteen minutes of fame on the cable news networks.

I'm done - preaching.

Another Cool Day - Spring Delayed

Only in the forties by afternoon and windy. We just stayed inside, watched tv, napped and ate.

We are easily entertained.

Nothing New

More of the same stuff. Trips to the pharmacy to pick up RX.  We learned that one could not be filled until today when we picked it up yesterday. So back today to get two more refills that were needed. And guess what? They can't be refilled till next Wednesday. Aren't rules and regulations grand? Just a few more trips than were really necessary. I must say the people in the pharmacy are so kind, helpful and they keep track of everything!

We need all the help we can get.

Who'd A Thunk It?

This is probably one of the first pictures taken of me at five months old in September, 1931. That is my dad holding me after they chose me to come and live with them. What a lucky little baby.

I had spent about five months in the hospital. There were some physical problems and my birth mother was not able to keep her baby.

Can you imagine the hospital bill for five months in the nursery and the doctor bill for surgery and care?  I cannot. How I wish I had asked my mom about that.

Anyway, who would have thought that baby would still be around eighty-eight years later? Certainly not I.

Is Facebook Psychic?

I do not believe that I have mentioned anywhere on the internet that I did something to my back.

Or - my back has done something to me. I must have lifted something heavy. Or I may have lifted something in an awkward manner but lower back pain is now my companion.

I'm ok if I don't bend forward, sit down, stand up, turn or reach.

Yesterday I was looking at Facebook and I swear that an ad popped up about lower back pain and Medicare. Can reading minds be part of their invasive powers?

Frozen Waffle

I decided to have a frozen waffle this morning. Not especially tasty but different from regular toast and jam.
Usually I put syrup and butter on a waffle (or pancake.) In the fridge I saw a can of Reddi Whip. When was the last time I even touched that can? I took it out and checked the sell by date on the bottom.

If it's hard for you to see, it says March 26, 2019.  What a co inky dink.

So I sprayed some on the waffle and it was ok.

A new Broom Sweeps Clean

Today we finally made a trip to the hardware store to replace a missing broom. When our son from the south was here in February, he helped us do various things around the house and yard.

I do not recall that any of those chores involved a broom.

After he left, we could not find our broom. When I texted him about it, he said it might be in the back yard.

Nope.

We looked every place we could think of and finally decided that with the $10 coupon the hardware store sent us, we could do well to replace said broom!  This new broom looks exactly like the previous, missing sweeping tool. I've thought about keeping it in the bedroom closet instead of the garage so that I can keep track of it.

And paying only $5.00 for a fifteen dollar broom sounds like a good deal to me. Let's hope this one sticks around for a long time.

One of Many Missions

Yesterday I searched our "Market Place" for shelled walnuts. Someone read that they are good for you. So that was the request of the day.
In the multi-acre store there were several places containing nuts. Cashews, peanuts, almonds, pistachios, mixed,  but no walnuts.

Today we took a trip to the far side of town to visit a place with "market" in the name. This smaller place has the biggest of variety of Everything you could ever want. Vegetables, old fashioned drinks, cookies, candy, honey, t-shirts with the store's name, socks, all flavors of chips - in other words, many things the larger place does not carry.

And walnuts! A large container weighing 15 oz. was only $6.99.

Successful Mission!

Friday and Warm Temperatures

What a lovely morning. No wind and it will be in the sixties by afternoon.

We have been eating breakfast earlier and together. Usually I am up first and need something to eat so we seldom ate that first meal together. Now we have had several days of an early breakfast together!
Very nice change.

Lee has been filing insurance papers. They do pile up!

I received an early birthday card today from my sister-in-law in South Jersey NJ 080, according to the postmark! No town listed. I've never been east of Frankfort, KY.   Wait.   I've been to Florida but not the northeast part of the U.S. I would love to see New England but will have to just see photos. When I was a kid we went west because that's where the relatives were: Arizona and California. I feel lucky I got to see that part of the country. Much later our son moved to Oregon and I had a cousin in Washington state....both beautiful places to visit. I would be happy to live either place but we love our little flat town in the middle of the country; usually quiet and not the rush and rat race of bigger places. And then there is Texas. Dalhart had dear friends there and now the other son and his family near Dallas.

I have great memories of traveling. And lots of photos!

An Early Day's Start

I went to bed very early last night. A long day of stress and errands caught up with me.

So this morning I was awake early. All the laundry was done by 6:00. We got a notice yesterday that the water will be "off" between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for replacing valves.

The afghan grows very slowly, row by single crochet row. I really like this pattern. It is so simple and a great way to use lots of left over colors of yarn.

Voice Box

After this long time of unwellness, my voice is still a mess. Lee can't understand half of what I say.

I tried gargling some warm salt water. Soothing, but no help for the voice.

Yesterday on a trip to the clinic, I happened to see an old quilting friend. She is having the same problem with her voice. I told her about the salt water. She laughed and says she gargles with whiskey.

We have a small bottle with about an ounce of Southern Comfort in it so I tried that this morning. So far no positive results and I did not swallow one drop.

Saturday - A Day to Forget

And now it's Sunday and sunny, with promises to be warm. Fifty-eight degrees sounds good to me.

Someone has suggest ordering food "out" so I won't have to cook for one meal!  I guess when you are at this particular age, you might as well do what you want. No food police nearby! I looked at the packages of beef and cabbage. The packages were for a family of at least six. The two us would have had to eat a lot of corned beef for that not to have been very wasteful.

We may get a  pizza.

Or fish.

A Long Journey

Today was the day to take the information to the tax lady. She is located in a town south of here known as South Hutchinson. We have been there many times. Today a street was closed where we usually turn. I continued on till I could turn off the highway and ended up in a large empty parking area for a trucking company. Back to the road.

After a long ride through parts of town never before seen by us and a long winding trail through Carey Park (think salt company) we finally arrived at South Main Street and turned south again to get to the tax office.  Lee finally asked, "Where are we going?" It would have been funny if I had felt better.

The nice tax lady says most people over sixty-five are doing the standard deductions. We'll see how it works out.

We did manage to find our way home by sticking to Main Street.

Wednesday Already

Another few days pass with a fall, firemen and trip by ambulance to the hospital. Checked out ok with no broken bones. He wanted out so badly he told the P.T. lady he would do all the exercises she showed him. So after only 12 hours we were back home.

Yet to see any movements similar to the ones demonstrated. I keep trying.  I am ignored. He has strong bones but weak muscles.

Clocks

I didn't  reset the clocks before I went to bed last night as I usually do. All night I kept waking up and checking the time on our bedroom alarm. Very unrestful.

So this morning about 5:00 (6:00?) I finally got up, ate some breakfast and changed all seven time pieces. What a ridiculous amount of clocks in a small house. Three were gifts: one for our 50th wedding anniversary from a dear neighbor, one from the realtor who helped us buy this house and one from my cousin, Marcheta. It is a grandmother clock with beautiful chimes. It belonged to her mother, Violet. The others are an alarm and wall clocks in the kitchen, bathroom and computer room. I guess they have just accumulated and we don't get rid of anything unless it quits working.

I used to wear a wrist watch but when cell phones became a constant presence, I depend on it instead.

Now if we could just get the government, or the powers that be, to just set the time at one place or the other and leave it alone.

Early Saturday Trip to the Grocery Store

I woke up early, showered and felt more normal than I  have in many days. The temperature was 48 and sprinkling,

I knew I wanted to go get groceries before the crowd so I got to the store about 7:15.  All the parking spots were open by the door! There were very few customers. More workers filling shelves.

I rounded up what was on my list, spent just under a hundred dollars and was home before eight.

Now I believe I'll rest a bit.

TV out

One tv is fine. The other is stuck on Setup Wizard. I think I did something to cause it but Cox's Serge C. tells me there is an outage in the area. So I guess an outage in the area can affect one cable box in a house but not the other one.

Up to 49. WOW. Wish it would hold there for several days before it gets warmer.

Later: I remembered that there is another remote to the tv velcroid to the back of the set. I retrieved it, messed with some buttons and got the picture back. I wish I knew what I did to cause it in the first place.

Sorry, Cox. This time you were wrong.

Very cold for March

Five degrees here this morning. Tomorrow? Possibly 40 in the afternoon.

Clinic asked for a follow up yesterday. Snowy streets and cold convinced them  to reschedule for tomorrow. Cough almost gone. Now if the breathing treatments didn't make me shake, I think I would be half way back to normal.

I have even crocheted a little on the left-over yarn afghan. We've done laundry, cooked a little, run the dishwasher and thank goodness for old tv movies.

My Second Home

Back to the clinic yesterday. Non stop coughing and feeling blah.

More RX. X ray and good reports on it and lab.

Slept well over a  long night. Feeling some better this morning.

How boring this is.
