Mulberries

This tree has been near our garage since we moved here, almost nine years ago. At first it was more like a bush. When it started getting taller, Lee trimmed it every year. This is the first year he has seen mulberries on it. Of course, I googled mulberry bush/tree and they black and white ones grow on trees. They are from Eastern Asia. I didn't taste any of them. We also discovered that lady bugs are very plentiful on the branches.

Multi-Color

I have several small balls of yard from projects. Since I finished my last red, black, white and grey afghan, I decided to start using some of these bits of yarn.

This could be "The Afghan of Many Colors," or "Multi-Color Wrap" or simply, "Leftovers."
I think I like the last name the best.

Chopped Onions and a Sparkly Find

It has been cool for May. L. thought chili sounded good so we went to the store to buy chili stuff. I have always chopped my own onion and celery and green pepper to put in the pot.
L. converted me to go to the salad bar and just dish up those items. Less chopping, he says.

So yesterday I dipped into the diced onion compartment and what did I spoon up? An artificial finger nail - all silver with  sparkly stuff on it.

I picked it out and took it to one of the cashiers who stand right behind the salad bar to check out customers, told her where I found it. No reply. She may have been as stunned as I was.

From now on, I think I'll chop my own onions and celery.

Gelato

I had never heard of gelato until a few years ago. I am not an employee or agent of this company but this is the best frozen dessert I have eaten. It's chocolate peanut butter. Those small things on top are tiny Reese's cups. I opened it, didn't have my camera with me to take a photo. So I just dipped some out and took the photo later.

I may have to pace myself.

Service Engine Soon

This light has been shining through on the dash of our van since last Friday. Today we drove to the Ford garage and made an appointment to put the vehicle on the computer and see what is going on.
That will be today at 1:00.  Charge $100.

Just to look?

The path forward was block. so I backed out after assuring the woman I knew how to back up :(

After running some errands, I looked down and the warning is gone.

They have a powerful garage there. Drive in. Car is fixed. Appointment cancelled till next time the light appears.

Wedding Photos, 1928

On May 11, 1928 my mom and dad were married. Not a big fancy affair and they took photos afterward at the park. The second photo is the bride and groom with the husband's parents, my grandparents, on the left. Ada and Delmar were only fifty-seven. Why do they look so much older than that to me? Mom and dad were twenty-four and thirty. (My dad would have preferred I kept that number a couple of digits lower - he liked to lower his age. Even when he got a hunting license at twenty-three, his age is listed as twenty-one.) In the next photo which is the wedding party, some were left out. Either the camera had a defective view finder, or the photographer liked that big tree.
Fred Hampton, Wayne Dewey (the child), Delmar and Ada Brown, Eliza Hampton and Ernest Dewey.
In this photo are my dad, Dewey Brown, his dad, Delmar, mother, Ada, Aunt "Lizy" Ernest Dewey and seated are my mom, Selma Wright Brown and Violet Hampton Dewey.

The Hamburgler?

Yesterday we traveled to Mickey D's for a hamburger, small fries and a drink. As I ordered on the Speaking Machine, the order taker said something about a small American meal. I hadn't heard of that so we said ok.  I got a Sweet Tea which I know is a dollar. The total was only $3.83. Seemed pretty cheap.
We got to the window and paid, got the sack, drove off.

L. opened the sack. Wow! No hamburger. Our son reminded me of the Hamburgler from many years ago. Maybe he got it.

We had to return, explain and got more fries and an apple pie with the missing burger. And an apology.  Another day in the life of fast food people.

Burger with a Tail?

We stopped a got a plain hamburger today with a small fries. Cheap lunch. I came home and doctored mine up with some onion and a slice of pickle.
Imagine my surprise when I laid it down for a minute and saw this "tail." I quickly lifted the bun and saw it was the stem to the pickle slice I added. Whew!
