A couple of weeks ago our doorbell rang. We don't get a lot of dings from it!
I opened the door and saw a K-State sweat shirt. I looked up and saw someone that I hadn't seen for about thirty years....a friend of our younger son who spent a lot of time at out house! He and his wife and twelve year old son were on their way to visit his dad in a town west of here. They stopped here to see us. We had such a good time catching up.
He's retired after teaching for twenty-seven years. He moved back to Kansas after spending most of his career in Washington state.
We used to tease him about looking like Robert Redford. And he still does - a younger RR!

It's Been A While!
After a few weeks, I think my computer problems are solved. If there were some way to thank our computer guru, I would do it. Thank you doesn't seem adequate. He has spent hours figuring out why the computer was "nuts."
Now if I just had something interesting to blog about.
The most important thing is we are getting some rain. It is so dry here that the first week in March we had terrible prairie fires north of our town, losing twelve homes. In the southwestern part of the states many farmers lost all their cattle, fencing, buildings and some homes. Help has come from all around to fight the fires and now bales of feed for remaining stock is being trucked in from Missouri and other places. Teens are volunteering to rebuild fences.
I hope the rain helps all those who were affected.

Nothing to Blog About
I haven't felt like sharing anything with the few people who may read this blog.
The most exciting thing to happen here is a can of soda (which in this neck of the woods is called "pop") exploded in the freezer. We did hear a strange noise one night. The dogs took notice but didn't go into barking mode so we didn't investigate. And who would check the freezer for things that go bump in the night?

Hats
The holidays are over.
I've been making hats - beanies - or as we called them, stocking caps.
The new thing is a pattern for a messy bun hat with a hole for the bun or pony tail.
These are a pattern called Mommy and Me.
One reason I haven't been posting is that our son helped me change some things on the computer and I couldn't find my blogspot page to compose a blog. Some days are so challenging.

Happy Memories
Yesterday I felt ANOTHER cold coming on. Dang. Third one since the week before Thanksgiving.
Feeling a little "down," I mopped the kitchen, did a few other cleaning things and sat down to realize how good life really is.
This morning I realized that twenty-six years ago, Gigi B. and I were in the lovely state of Louisiana. Our first grandchild on both sides of the family tree was due to arrive. We flew there together. (It's so good to be on friendly terms with your son's in-laws!) We had a good time and later in the evening, Miss E. decided it was time to head to the hospital. Driving on unknown roads, in the dark - but heck, I've been driving since I was fourteen, right? Well, I didn't see a curb that some engineer place right in the middle of four lanes and we went soaring over that but no harm unless it was to the station wagon's alignment.
Our first granddaughter arrived after midnight on the fourteenth of December, looking suspiciously like her dad did thirty-one years before! About her dad, he was over in Desert Storm and following events by telephone - no texting then (that I was aware of.) And the first thing our son said to me on the phone: "I hear you tried to wreck my Jeep."

Personal Hygiene
Yesterday I had a quick trip to the clinic to see my doctor about the second cold coming on since the week before Thanksgiving. Not many folks were in the waiting room. While Lee read a magazine, I observed the other people waiting.
I really do not stare! That would be rude but I did glance around a lot. The woman who was the most interesting was sitting sideways off to our right and facing away from us. Therefore she didn't see my very coy "glances."
She had a large quilted bag - almost too large to be a purse but I noticed she was searching in it for something deep inside. At last she found her hand/body lotion and applied it liberally to her bare arms. It was a chilly day but she had removed her jacket.
That lotion was powerful in the smelling department.
Next she found a mirror and some tweezers and was actually pulling hairs from her middle aged moustache. (Ladies, you all know what I mean if you are of a certain age.) About this time, we were called in for my appointment.
Now I'll never know if she flossed her teeth or cleaned her ears with one of those new rotor rooter things I see on tv.

Noritake Candy Dishes
These are two candy dishes that belonged to my mom. I wonder if she used them when she had bridge club. Those were lively affairs with two tables, eight ladies and lots of card playing, talking and laughing. When desert was served, there were square linen bridge cloths. The dishes seem pretty small but things were daintier back then. They're are from the 1930's, long before we were involved in a dispute with the country who made beautiful, hand painted things.
