Besides being red, this roof appears to be metal. I have seen a green one and a brown one
in our town.
This might be good protection from hail but how would it sound when it rains?
Or worse, when it hails?
I also wonder about the cost of such a roof compared to a regular shingled construction.
The house behind this one also has the same treatment.
Maybe there was a special deal - two for the price of one.
My daughter had a metal roof put on her house in DC. She really liked it, so when she needed a new roof over her porch on her house in Wi...she did the same. The one in Wi. isn't insulated, so when it rains...you hear very loud patters on the roof. But when the oak tree drops it's acorns...you can hear them hit the roof from out in the lake. She loves sitting there listening to this sound. I must say...it's better than being hit on the head with them :)

By the way...they do cost more than a conventional roof.
That was Balisha...not Ballsha :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting! (I didn't notice the typo - shows how the brain fools us.)
DeleteMy grandson has one of those metal roofs on his and Marlene's house. It is insulated and I don't notice any noise.
ReplyDeleteThat never entered my mind that they could insulate something that well. We were in apartment which was rented with the understanding that there was 13 inches of space between our ceiling and the floor above. I don't know who was walking in that small space, but we could hear every footstep!
DeleteWe are mulling over a metal roof to replace our shingled one. I love the look and wondered about the noise, too.
