A Big Prop

This photo is from Oregon in 2000. I have no idea what ship that

propeller is from. We should have taken a picture of the plaque.

Future Parking Garage

Here is the corner of First and Walnut Streets where the newspaper states that demolition in the lot

will begin Monday for the new parking garage.

My question: What will they demolish since there is nothing there. Maybe the cement

will be removed to dig a foundation.

The tall tan building at right center is the former Baker Hotel, now known as The Towers. 

William Holden and others

had rooms there during the filming of "Picnic." There were rumors of him leaning out of

a window but no proof was produced. Not everybody had a camera with them in 1952.

The other tan building above the famous Fox Theater is the Rorabaugh-Wiley building as it

was formerly known. It is being refurbished for apartments. A person out of state owned it

for many years after buying it for under $50,000! Let's just say he made quite a profit when

he sold it back to local persons.

The Fox was restored several years ago and is now on the National Registry of Historic places.

Built in 1931 it was a grand palace as so many of the old theaters were. All the old

chandeliers and lights are in place. They were even able to replace the carpet with the

same pattern used in '31.

And for the building on the left, it looks as though it could use a little help in the window department.

Maude (Pringle) Harken

This is my Great Aunt Maude, my grandmother's sister. She lived on a farm in Iowa with electricity
provided by a "wind charger." Yes, in the 1930's there was wind power. She was married to Uncle P.J. who had lost three quarters of his left arm in an automobile accident. I was fascinated that he could carry a full pail of milk on his stub, as he called it. Aunt Maude was a terrific cook and we had many good meals there.

She looks stern in this photo but she was very kind and had a good sense of humor.

Almost Out of the Picture

This was my dress for the senior prom.

Mom almost got me out of view.

I always heard it was better not to place your subject in the exact center of  the frame.

Maybe the tree was the focus in the view finder.

He lived here from 1899 to 1944. The plans for the house were updated by Frank Lloyd Wright but not followed completely. Wikipedia has the whole story.

Jack and Jill

Our two pound puppies, rescue dogs, kennel mates - unrelated animals we found two years

ago on Hallowe'en. With a special on black or orange colored dogs, we got two

for the price of one.

I just recently heard that black dogs are not adopted as often as dogs of other colors because people

think they are mean.

What an odd concept.
