Light Bulbs

We moved into this house twelve and a half years ago. I can't remember how many light bulbs we have replaced in the ceiling fans, the hall and the closets. They burn out (quit working) after an amazingly short amount of time.

Except for the one on the back screened in porch. It is the large Sylvania bulb on the left.

So a trip to the hardware store resulted in two bulbs like the 60 W one on the right.  The old one states 14 W and the same 120 volts. I wonder why the big difference in the wattage? We'll see how long the new one lasts. Who knows how long it had been in place before we arrived.

Oh yes. They were already making them in the same place thirteen years ago - China.

  1. We have a few lamps that seem to burn out rather quickly too. Others last forever. Who knows why?

  2. Light bulbs sure are fickle things, aren't they! Our ceilings are really, really high so we have to call the apartment building maintenance guy (he lives down the hall from us) to bring his ladder and change them for us... and they're these odd bulbs we would never be able to find in town anyway, ugh. Such fanciness, haha.

  4. The one on the left will probably be a CFL (compact fluorescent light). 14W will be about equal to a 100W incandescent bulb. Your new 60W bulbs will be not quite as bright and last about 1,000 hours (125 days at eight hours per day).

    1. I wonder how many hours the one on the left was used. All night, every night for twelve years. That is a lot more than 125 days estimated for the one on the right!
