A picture of our favorite policeman who walked the beat on Main.
That's my friend, Lu, on the right. We were probably on our lunch hour from working at Kresses. I spent a lot of summers there selling everything from window shades which we had to measure and cut, to hardware, candy, dishes and records. We even worked the lunch counters and learned to make malts and ham salad sandwiches. I miss the old five and dime stores.
And in the background, the Wolcott Building (just above the man with the hat) which was torn down to make a park for the bank. I heard it was one of the first air conditioned office buildings west of the Mississippi when it was built.
