A Round Tree

This tree was in a yard two doors north of our house when we moved in. Sadly, that winter we had a bad ice storm that destroyed this lovely shape and the owners had the tree removed.

I always wondered what the name of this tree is. We still aren't acquainted with that neighbor or I would ask him.
