This picture is from two years ago this month.
So far I have not seen any locusts nor have I heard any "singing."
Night before last we had 5.83" of rain. Perhaps they were washed away.
Or maybe it's true that they only appear every seventeen years.
More research is needed.
This is a cicada and not the type found on the east coast. "Dog day cicadas appear at the end of summer, have green-tinged wings [source: Penn State University].
The ones in the east have red eyes.
