Why I Love Portland OR XVIII

The Oregon flowers impress me because they are so different from what I see growing where I live.
Maybe I need to get out more but there things in the Northwest that just do not grown on the plains.

A Skylight at the Kennedy School

It's hard to tell, but these flowers are made of colored glass and are on a background of more mosaics.

This is the last of the Kennedy School, but many more pictures of Portland will follow.

A Mosaic and A Painting

I believe this is honoring a former principal of the Kennedy School.

This is fascinating painting - children in puffy blue pajamas preparing to launch some sail boats?

The Kennedy School has a Cafe

Another painting.

A class room converted to a small café.
The school was built in 1915. By the 1970's it was closed to students and deemed to decrepit to be
saved. However a group formed and managed to revive it. McMenamin is the name associated with that save!  More can be learned on Google by typing in Kennedy School in Portland OR.

Tea at the Kennedy School

From the styles I would guess in the 1930's.
Here is some more of the delightful wall art in the halls.

A Mosaic

A little blurry - from 1998 - this mosaic is in The Kennedy School in Portland, OR. Three of my favorite things; a sunflower, a flag and some music. And in my favorite big city.

Unexpected Outcomes

From 1999, our last time to be in Kansas City.
This is the skyline with the reflections of the hotel ceiling lights.
Reminds me of possible ships from outer space.
Now we find that almost all the UFO sightings from the '50's and '60's were U2s.

Stone Guardhouse

This is in Kanopolis KS and another example of how early settlers used what they had to construct buildings. There were very few trees in sight.
