Banking Woes

Isn't it strange that sometimes when you make a mistake, another person involved in a transaction
makes an additional mistake? This makes it very hard to get things back in order.

For instance; I omitted a check from the register. (Yes, we have not entered the online system of paying our bills.) The balance was way off. Our friendly bank lady undertook the job, found the mistake and all is well with the finances.

However, once a month we receive a print-out from our financial institution with each check copied and listed on a 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper.  L. files these in case we need to  look something up. The check number was 4208. We searched the print-out with no luck. That  particular check was the ONLY one not listed. Amazing. The good thing is, I wrote the check, it didn't bounce when the utility cashed it and we're back to balancing.

Half Price

When I get an offer to buy a drink for half price, I am
not srong enough to resist.
Through emails I receive offers from this well-known
company.
They are limited to certain days and I missed the last offer by
one day. Today was the last day for a citrus cooler so with
a short two mile round trip to take, off we went.
The weather is more decent than the 104 we  had yesterday.
Only about 88 degrees. Quite a pleasant change.
 Since this is the land of the South Wind,
we do have a strong breeze.
The drink? It reminds me of orange life savers.

Old Buttermilk Sky

This is what I thought when I saw these
clouds last night after our short
shower.
There are several similar photos on facebook from the area - most of them
very orange but one a soft pink.
It amazes me how quickly colors can change during a sunset.
(For you younger ones, there is a song by that name sung by
Hoagy Carmichael.)

Glowing Lilies

With the sky pale orange, these lilies looked as if they were glowing.

Weather to the South of Us

These towering clouds were over the southern part of our county
last night.
No rain here but a little thunder rumbled.

Tired Eyes

The barking started this mornng about 4:00. We have a very early paper delivery person.
After that it could have been a rabbit.
But when I got up to look out front, there were people walking at 5:00.

I guess Jack and Jill, the watch dogs, don't like people walking in the hours before sunrise. I don't either when it causes them to be "on guard."

Lunch

It was really nice to have lunch with Ms. L. Friday.
It had been too long!
We picked a hot day to get out - the first official day of summer

Sweet Potato Triscuits

I heard these mentioned on the internet.
Always a sucker to try something new, I  bought both
the Savory Red Bean and the Roasted Sweet Onion and
Sweet Potato.
The Sweet Potato ones are the best

The "V" Tree

Remember the "W" trees in the movie, "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World?"
We have the "V" trees.
L is afraid the left trunk may be rottiing away and could fall.
It looks solid to me for at least another five years.

Blue Flowers

Lilies

These flowers seem to last for only a day. Saturday we had one. Sunday it was gone
and we had the group seen in the first photo. A rain and wind storm took care of them
Sunday night. I'm glad I got the close up before nature took them away.

Carmel Ribbon Crunch Frappucino Blended Beverage

 I have a gift card to a certain coffee shop (also another one to a local shop!) Both were gifts for my birthday. This particular one sends emails with coupons for special offers. This item was free if I "paid" with my card.

I don't know what that meant, exactly, so I took my card, my phone with the email displayed to my local branch. Sure enough! All free.

And it is delicious. Afterthought: Who thinks up those long, involved names for a 560 calorie drink?

For Father's Day

1898-1982

My Dad

 

Dad, ready for work about 1949. He was a line foreman for the
Kansas Power and Light during the '30's and '40's.
He retired in 1963 at age sixty-five with thirty years service.
He was a strong union man and believed the unions had
helped the working man rise from bad conditions.
I believe that too.
Just like everything else, some things are taken to extreme.
Instead of protecting workers from employers,
  the union can intimidate the company when there
is a case of justified firing.
I think my dad would have wanted to weed out the
non-workers and have a good crew!

He was a great dad and I could have not chosen a better one.
So thankful that he and Mom chose me.

Flag Day

Yes, it's breezy.
The vine is climbing up the bricks.
In past years L. has tied string to help the vine climb. Not successful.
This year the wires that held the vine up and hid the front porch are gone.
So maybe the energy of the plant has now gone into climbing  and
hiding the chlorine/salt stained bricks - which is what we wanted.

 Our Madi planted this in 2009. This ivy seems to think it is a spreader instead of a climber.

Fireflies in a Jar

 I remember doing that when I was a kid. There were more "lightning bugs" in Iowa where my grandparents lived than in Kansas but lately we've been seeing more in the Sunflower state.

These ladies all could play a mean kazoo along with their angel food cake pan and
sweeper. Other untensils were used.
I love the plastic spoons for buttons.
Even though they look serious, they had a lot of fun doing this.

Life's Little Problems

What could be worse than having a pipe leaking in the crawl space under your home?
A pipe leaking in a basement under your home.
We usually regret that we don't have a basement, but not yesterday. L. heard water running in the morning. We called our friendly plumber and turned off the water.  He came out late in the day and put a pump in the crawl space.

There was a trip to the store to buy bottled drinking water and some attempts to fill empty gallon jugs with our well water. I wonder if there is any way to manage the strong outflow from that well! We  used well water to flush...

Today Steve and a helper replaced the pipe that had a pin point hole. After twenty-four hours with no running water, we are back to normal. A check with the insurance company - unless something was damaged, there is no coverage for replacing a pipe.  A thought:  the pipe was damaged.

Odd Combinations

 The regular dark, plain bars were all
sold out. So I decided to try something
different.
